NAPsaC Officers & Association Board Members
The NAPsaC Board brings together representatives and alternates from independent component societies across Canada, the United States, and Asia. Operating on a collaborative governance model that balances the diverse sizes and geographic reach of our member groups, the Board works to facilitate cross-border communication, manage organizational infrastructure, and represent North American psychoanalysis on the global stage. NAPsaC Board is made up of 12 groups, each with one representative and one alternate, bringing the formal number of participating Board members to 24.
Below are the dedicated individuals currently guiding our confederation’s strategic direction and shared initiatives.
Sue Kolod, PhDPresidentSue Kolod, Ph.D. is President of the North American Psychoanalytic Confederation. She served on the IPA Board from 2019 to 2023. Dr. Kolod is a Supervising and Training Analyst at the William Alanson White Institute and co-leads a group addressing toxic polarization called The Depolarization Project. |
Elizabeth WallacePresident-ElectElizabeth Wallace is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst practicing in Calgary, Alberta. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Calgary, Department of Psychiatry, and a Training and Supervising Analyst with the Canadian Institute of Psychoanalysis. She is a member and Past President of the Western Canada Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. |
Carolyn Steinberg, MD, FRCPCSecretaryCarolyn is President of North Western Psychoanalytic Society and Institute in Seattle, and a member of Canadian Psychoanalytic Society. She has been on the NAPsaC Board serving as Secretary since 2020. She is currently a Facilitator of Group 1 for the IPA’s Presidents Meeting Program. She lives in Vancouver BC. | Steven Demby, Ph.D. is a licensed NYS psychologist and a psychoanalyst working with adults in private practice in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. He is Chair of the NY Ethics Committee of the Contemporary Freudian Society and on the faculty of the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis and the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. |

Bonnie Buchele, PhDAmerican Psychoanalytic Association (APsA)Bonnie Buchele, Ph.D., is the current president of the American Psychoanalytic Association. She lives and practices in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Her experience in leadership includes having been a president of the American Group Psychotherapy Association and Director of the Greater Kansas City Psychoanalytic Institute. Publications and presentations she has given are based on her interest in treatment of trauma, group dynamics and processes and governance. |
Caroline Sehon, MDAmerican Psychoanalytic Association (APsA)Caroline W. Sehon, MD, FRCP(C), FABP, Canadian- and US-trained, is President-Elect of the American Psychoanalytic Association, Executive Director of the International Psychotherapy Institute (IPI), a supervising child and adult psychoanalyst, and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University. Her writing addresses psychoanalysis, teleanalysis, and group intervention during wartime, and she is the editor of Echoes of Childhood (Karnac, 2026). Dr. Sehon maintains a private practice in Bethesda, Maryland. |

Gloria is the President of the Confederation of Independent Psychoanalytic Societies and NA Chair of the IPA Committee on Couple & Family Psychoanalysis (COFAP). She is a training and supervising analyst at the Contemporary Freudian Society (NYC) where she is also Chairs the Training Analyst Committee. She lives and practices in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn in NYC. |

Randi Wirth, PhD, FIPA, BCPsaInstitute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR)Randi Wirth, PhD, is a training and supervising analyst at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR) in New York City where she also serves on the Board of Directors. She is currently one of seven North America Representatives on the IPA Board of Directors where she also serves on the IPA Appointments Committee. She is a Director and Past-President of the Confederation of Independent Psychoanalytic Institutes (CIPS) and currently serves on the Board of the North American Psychoanalytic Confederation (NAPsaC). She served as the first Chair of the NAPsaC Program Committee organizing numerous Regional and Tri-Regional seminars and panels. She was the North American Representative of the IPA’s International New Groups Sponsoring Committee in Seoul, Korea and served on the Program Committee of the first Asia-Pacific Conference in Taipei. Randi is in private practice in Manhattan working with adolescents, adults and couples. She has consulted on group dynamics and conflict resolution in schools and organizations. She has a special interest in ADHD, executive functioning in children and adults, as well as psychosomatic disorders. She has over three decades of experience in the field of eating disorders having served as chief psychologist at the Renfrew Center and as executive director of the American Anorexia and Bulimia Association (AABA). |
